In today's post I am going to discuss the preparation that I have done before creating my sign off project. I went through several YouTube video reviews so that I could learn more about the structure of the video type of reviewing.
Before even getting to the proper example of the video review I have decided that I should look out for a video explaining what exactly is Film Review and how you should write it properly.
On the YouTube channel called ''EssayPro'' I have found exactly what I have been looking for.
The author of the video explains the meaning of the film review stating that ''Movie Review is a genre of art criticism and journalism''
Further the author breaks down his tips for making a good film review saying among other things that a proper film review should include:
- a brief discussion of the plot
- the analysis
- your own opinion and feelings
- recommendation (or not)
But to do so, to make an impressive film review there are some boxes that need to be checked.
1. You have to watch the film first
2. You have to make notes about it
3. You have to do a research about the film itself
4. You have to analyze the film
5. You have to draw a review outline
After doing so you can start writing your review
The second part of the post I would like to reserve for the actual example of the film video review.
One of the most known film video reviewers on YouTube is Chris Stuckmann. He has been reviwing films on YouTube for 9 years now and he is very successful in doing so.
I have chosen one of his reviews to break it down in this post and tell the most important things that I have picked while watching his clip.
I have chosen to describe his Ocean's 8 film review.
The first thing that I have noticed is him presenting the title, director and the cast first. He skips to mention the entire cast of the film to avoid boredom and to keep the viewer fascinated.
Then he describes the plot of the film in a nutshell. That being stated he starts giving his own opinion about the film and the acting performance that actors have given us.
His opinion is divided. Instead of judging the film as a whole he judge the film by its aesthetic, acting performance, recording, frames, music, scenario, colours, directing and angles.
The last step that Chris is doing is the summary. He gives his final thought and after that he rates the film by the scale from A to D, while A being a great film and D being very bad film.

As discussed in class you need more depth here and you need to research your target audience and look at examples from other film critics and how they write and really analyse their use of language and structure for their target audience - try adding more research soon as time is ticking
